Privacy
Whirlpool is a personal capture inbox. You text it links and thoughts, it saves them, and it shows them back to you on a private board. This page says what that means for your data in plain terms.
What is stored
- Your phone number. It is the account — there is no email, password or username.
- The messages you send, as received, along with anything extracted from links you share (title, author, article text, preview image).
- Summaries and tags generated for your saves, and the questions you ask along with the answers given.
- Login codes, stored only as a one-way hash, and browser sessions, likewise.
Who it is shared with
Nobody, other than the services needed to run it: Twilio carries the text messages, and Anthropic's API generates the summaries, tags and answers. The contents of your saves are sent to Anthropic for that purpose. Your data is not sold, and it is not used for advertising.
No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are never shared with anyone.
Consent and opting out
You opt in by texting Whirlpool. That first message is the sign-up. Reply STOP at any time to stop receiving messages, or HELP for the list of commands. Message and data rates may apply, and message frequency varies — Whirlpool only replies when you ask it something or request a login code.
Deleting things
Any individual save can be deleted from the board, which removes it and everything derived from it. To delete your account and everything in it, text Whirlpool and ask.
Security, honestly stated
Access is by a code sent to your phone. That is convenient and reasonably safe, but it is worth knowing what it rests on: anyone who controls your phone number — through a SIM swap, or simply by holding an unlocked phone — can read the code and get in. Do not store anything in Whirlpool you would not want read by someone holding your phone.
