Terms of Service
Whirlpool is a personal capture inbox. You text it links and thoughts, it saves them, and it shows them back to you on a private board. These are the terms you agree to by using it. They are meant to be read, so they are written plainly.
SMS program terms
- Program. Whirlpool — a personal capture inbox. You text it links and notes; it saves them and shows them back to you on a private board at whrlpl.app.
- How to opt in. Text Whirlpool at +1 (716) 575-3906. That first message is your sign-up — there is no other sign-up form.
- Message frequency. Varies, and is driven entirely by you. Whirlpool sends one welcome message when you first text it, a one-time code when you request a login, and a reply when you ask it a question. It sends no marketing and no unprompted messages.
- Msg & data rates may apply. Message and data rates from your carrier may apply to messages you send and receive.
- To opt out, reply STOP to any message. You will receive one confirmation and then nothing further. Text Whirlpool again at any time to opt back in.
- For help, reply HELP to any message, or see the support contact below.
- Support. Email hprmoj@gmail.com, or text Whirlpool and ask.
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
- Privacy. What is stored and who it is shared with is set out in the privacy policy. Mobile information is never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
Your account
Your phone number is your account. There is no email, password or username, and no sign-up form — the first message you send creates the account. One number is one account.
That means whoever controls the number controls the account. Keep your phone locked, and if you give up the number, delete the account first (see Privacy). You are responsible for what is sent from your number.
You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live — at minimum 13 — and the number you use must be yours to use.
What you send
Your saves stay yours. You keep whatever rights you already had in them, and using Whirlpool does not transfer ownership of anything.
You are giving permission to store what you send and to process it in order to run the service — which specifically means sending the contents of your saves to Anthropic's API to generate summaries, tags and answers. That is the whole of it. Your saves are not sold, not used for advertising, and not used to train anything.
Don't send things you don't have the right to send, and don't use Whirlpool to store anything illegal, or to harass anyone. Don't try to break it — no bulk or automated messaging, no scraping other people's boards, no attempts to reach the infrastructure behind it. There are rate limits on messages and on model requests; working around them is not allowed.
What the summaries are worth
Summaries, tags and answers are generated by a language model. They are frequently useful and occasionally wrong — a summary may misstate what an article said, and an answer may be confidently incorrect. Treat them as a convenience for finding your way back to the original, not as a substitute for reading it, and don't rely on them for anything that matters medically, legally or financially.
Availability, honestly stated
Whirlpool is a small project run by one person. There is no uptime guarantee, no support commitment, and no promise that a feature you like will still be here next month. It may be changed, interrupted or discontinued. If it is ever shut down for good, there will be reasonable notice and a way to get your data out.
Keep your own copy of anything you would be upset to lose. Backups exist, but a personal project is not a system of record.
Ending it
You can stop at any time: reply STOP to stop the messages, or text Whirlpool and ask for your account to be deleted, which removes it and everything in it. Accounts may be suspended or removed for the abuse described above, or where required by law.
The legal part
Whirlpool is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. To the fullest extent the law allows, liability for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages — including lost data or lost profits — is excluded, and total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for it in the previous twelve months, or ten US dollars.
Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, in which case they apply only as far as they legally can, and nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Changes
These terms may change. The date at the top says when they last did, and a material change will be announced by text before it takes effect. Continuing to use Whirlpool after that means you accept the new version.
